Our Weekend - The Good, The Fun, and The Horrible

This past weekend was like many others in our household - full of action and not much down time. One of the events on the agenda was the Strawberry Festival. This annual festival in our town always brings out a lot of crowds, several good bands, and of course fried foods. One of my favorite things, however, is the garage sales. With everyone in town, people are more excited about selling their junk in hopes someone else will view it as their treasures. I am a treasure seeker...

The Good
Saturday morning, Marc had to be the fairgrounds to help with the Jr. Leader garage sale. As an advisor for the group of teens, he had to be there the whole time. Maddie and I decided to go visit him before we were off to our first item on our agenda - my nieces baseball game. While hanging out there, I pointed out several items Marc could come home with. One of those things was a old treadmill. But seeing how it was marked still at $20, we decided to pass. It looked old and we didn't even know if it worked.

While there, I checked out some ads and decided to talk Marc into taking a 15 minute break from his responsibilities to come with me to a particular sale where they had Little Tikes Kids Coups. (The little plastic cars that the kids can sit in and scoot around.) We got to the garage sale 20 minutes early (hoping they wouldn't mind) and sure enough there was not only one of those cars but TWO of the cars.... Well I ended up with both after talking her down some in price. Retail - $49.99... Total for my two - $15. (Before you think I'm crazy - one is for Grandma and Grandpa's house!)

Later that day, Marc hit a good deal. He plugged that treadmill in and saw that it was in perfect running condition and bought it for $1! Cha-ching! We were getting good deals left and right this weekend!!!!

The Fun
After leaving the little bug home with her auntie, I headed to town to pick up Marc then head to work our shift at the Strawberry Festival. My mom is in a philanthropic sorority. Each year they have a booth to raise money for various charities throughout the community. Its a lot of fun to work with the ladies and their husbands. So much, that this is our third summer (or is it fourth) helping, and I'm not even a part of it!

When our shift was over, we decided to run home to get fresh clothes and the baby. We were happy to come back and not only listen to a good artist perform but to visit with my good friend, Jen. We also ran into some other friends and got to hang out as a group. It was a lot of fun!

And of course, you can't end the Strawberry Festival on Saturday night with the band. It ends (well for my family) after the church service on Sunday. Its always nice to sit outside, listen to gospel music, and hear the word of God! What a great festival we had this year! (And I also want to say that my husband bought me a beautiful necklace while there at one of the vendor booths. It was a surprise and is super pretty! In fact, I planned my whole outfit around it this morning!!! Thanks Marc!!!)

After the service, we went to my folks to celebrate the April, May, and June birthdays. What a blast it is to get together with my family! We played croquet, Grandpa showed the great grand kids how to fly a kite, we ate - just a lot of fun memories are made when we get together! (more pictures of the party to come...)

Now, in the title I wrote the good, the fun, and the horrible. We've not touched the last of these yet. I'll do that briefly now.....

The Horrible
Three weeks ago, a young dog showed up at my parents house. You might have even seen previous posts about her. We decided to adopt her, since she was so darn sweet and got along great with Duke and Daisy. She was, however, hit on Sunday afternoon and we had to put her down. She was in too much pain and there was no way to save her. It was a very sad day and it has been sad around our house since. Duke has been moping about and now I worry about him. He had instantly loved having a playmate. This is the downside to having pets.... But I'm glad we had her, even if it was only a short while....

More to come...
