I had the great fortune of receiving several bushels of apples this fall. It pays to have good friends! Last year I experimented with some apple recipes. One recipe that went over so well that I had to try it again this year - Apple butter! I made two different batches last year. One using apple sauce and another recipe cooking apples down in a slow cooker. The slow cooker recipe won the favorite in my house, as it was a lot thicker. Therefore, that's what I went with this year.
I doubled my batch this year. It smelled so good cooking for 11 hours in my crock pot! Its so easy to make! Once its cooked down, just put in jars and freeze! Seriously - that's easy! The only thing I'd change if I could about the batch I made this year, I think I cooked it too long. It was darker this year than last. My husband said it tasted perfect to him, so I'll trust him!
Enjoy the pictures! Let me know if you want me to pass on the recipe! (I'm just too lazy right now to go track it down and type it up.....)
Sorry, I forgot to take an after picture.
I also put up 48 containers of apple sauce. No pictures were taken in the making, however. I love this time of year! It offers so much inspiration to get me through the rest of the year. The beauty of the leaves, the smell of the air, the sounds of the machines bringing in the corn and beans, the warm days and cool evenings- ahhh just perfect! I hope you're enjoying your fall too!!!
More to come...
